Dance Disciplines and Dress Code

Dance Class Descriptions

Mommy and Me

Our Mommy and Me class is designed for some one-on-one time between mother and child. Through creative movement, songs and exercises it helps your child with their cognitive development, balance and coordination. Plus, it is fun!

Toddler/Preschool

Our Toddler and Preschool combination classes combine Ballet and Tap basics, coordination skills, rhythm exercises and fantasy dancing.

KinderDance

Our KinderDance combination class combines Ballet, Jazz and Tumbling together in a 45 minute class.  Basic listening skills and following directions are emphasized while learning the basic fundamentals of Ballet, Jazz and Tumbling. We will choose two of the three dance disciplines for our annual recital!

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation for almost all other styles of dance! The language of classical ballet was written in French; therefore we learn and speak French in our Ballet classes.  Ballet technique is extremely important. Technique is learned by focusing on poise, posture and placement. Dancers become stronger, more flexible and have increased balance and endurance.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a style derived from African dance and encompasses everything from popping and locking to breakdancing, footwork and jumps. Hip Hop dance is a balance of letting go and being loose with your body and movements, yet controlling them as well. Whether it is fast or slow, Hip Hop is a style of dance that is filled with attitude and fun!!

Jazz

Jazz dance has developed in parallel to popular music and has been influenced by African American, Carribean and modern U.S. culture. Jazz is medium paced and is based on style, utilizing both full body flexibility and isolated moves.

Modern/Contemporary

Modern/Contemporary dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings and emotions

Tap

Timing and rhythm are essential in learning tap. Students learn to make sounds they never thought were possible with only their feet! Dancers learn to be quick on their feet, enabling them to gain coordination, control, speed, balance and agility.

Pointe

Pointe dance is an advanced version of ballet dance by dancing "en pointe" or on your toes.

Acrobatics

Acrobatic dance is a style of dance that combines usually jazz dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Flexibility is important in this class and a lot of focus will be spend on stretching and holding in acro poses.
